INSIDE LOOK: WHAT'S NEXT FOR HELIOS

At HELIOS, we’re relentless about one thing: helping hockey players and coaches unlock their full potential through better data. That means our technology has to do more than just track — it has to disappear into the background, giving you powerful insights without slowing you down.

Over the past few months, our product team has been heads down on a series of upgrades aimed at making HELIOS faster, smarter, and more connected to the way you actually train. Today, we’re excited to share what’s new — and give you a glimpse at where we’re headed next.

Faster, Smarter, More Reliable Bluetooth Connections

*Double Tap* to Wake

In an effort to simplify waking your Core and prevent unnecessary battery drain during time you aren’t using it, we changed the fundamental way your sensor wakes up. No more shaking motions, just a “double tap” anytime you are looking to get the green connection dot.

Improved Bluetooth Connectivity

We rebuilt the way HELIOS connects to your sensor from the ground up. The result: more stable connections and faster session starting for our users. Whether you’re on the ice, or reviewing data in the locker room, HELIOS is ready when you are.

Data That Starts When You Do

Auto Start & Auto Stop

The game moves fast — so should your data capture. You can now arm your Core up to 2 hours before your session and HELIOS will automatically start recording when you start skating, and stop when you’re done.

We built this feature to support use cases where phones aren’t allowed in the locker room or parents with the phone running HELIOS never enter the rink, to name a few. That means no more missed practices or games, less wasted battery, and no distractions when you should be focused on performance.

Session Trimming

Have you ever stopped your HELIOS session late and wanted to remove that extra time at the end? Now you can trim the start and end of your recordings right in the app, keeping the focus on the most important parts of your training. Auto-Stop will certainly help limit late stops but we also wanted to give this control to the user.

Sharper Insights on Effort

Next-Gen Hustle Score

The Hustle Score is one of the most powerful ways to measure your on-ice work effort. It’s been used across over 425,000 sessions and 500,000 hours of HELIOS usage to-date.

Leveraging this large amount of data and customer feedback on how well the first generation Hustle Score matched their intuition, we’ve refined a Hustle Score V2 algorithm to better capture subtle changes in intensity, so the number you see is an even truer reflection of your effort.

Measure More Than Speed

Introducing Player Load

Your performance is more than just bursts and top-end speed. Player Load tracks the total demand on your body during a session — giving you a clear picture of workload, helping manage recovery, and making it easier to spot trends over time.

Unlocking Practice Video

Drill Run Videos (Beta)

We practice more than we play (games) but practice video has traditionally been too cumbersome to break down, until now. We started with Shifts in Game video, and now, we’re cutting Drill Runs in Practice video.  For coaches, pairing video with sensor data unlocks an entirely new level of analysis. Our new feature automatically links HELIOS data to on-ice video clips from practice sessions, so you can see exactly how technique, speed, and intensity come together in each rep. Learn how to use Drill Run Video on our Help Center.
